Procapil®…promotes more hairs in the “growth” phase

In clinical testing, this complex of natural botanical extracts and key nutrients has been shown to help reduce premature hair loss and thinning of hair by 1) counteracting the negative effects of follicle killing DHT, 2) strengthening hair bonding to the scalp and 3) increasing blood flow to the scalp, bringing nutrients to the follicle.

In one placebo controlled study, 67% of the Procapil® users experienced a significant improvement in just 4 months.  These individuals increased the number of hairs in the anagen “growth” phase by up to 46%.

GluPeptate™…helps support natural hair bond to the scalp

This nourishing blend has been clinically shown to help reduce hair loss by strengthening the bond between the hair and scalp by stimulating an important enzyme called transglutaminase.   This enzyme is necessary to produce the “glue” that your body uses to bond the hair to the base of the scalp.

Silanol, a biologically useful form of silicon, has been proven to aid in reducing hair loss and supporting healthy hair growth.

One study found that in just six weeks, 97% of participants reported that silanol reduced their hair loss and had a positive effect on new hair growth.  In addition, a longer term study was conducted for five months with results indicating than almost all participants reduced additional hair loss, increased the amount of hair in the key anagen growth phase, stimulated new healthy hair growth and decreased inflammation causing seborrhea.

Avocutine…DHT’s worst enemy

As the name suggests, this patented ingredient is made from avocado pear oil.  Avocutine helps your hair by stemming the activity of the enzyme 5 alpha reductase, which is needed to produce DHT.  It also reduces oil on the scalp and hair which results in less scalp inflammation and healthier hair growth.

In clinical testing, Avocutine inhibited the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase by 49%.  In addition, users experienced a 69% reduction in cumulative lipids (reducing greasiness of hair), a 46% reduction in scalp seborrhea, a 50% reduction in hair seborrhea, an 82% reduction in skin redness, and an 80% reduction in itching.

Zincidone…fighter of DHT and inflammation

This is a novel form of the essential mineral zinc, which is an important catalyst to your body’s natural hair growth process.  Zincidone enhances the activity of zinc by combining it with pidolic acid (PCA), a natural moisturizing factor.

Ginkgo Biloba Leaf
Extract-100mg

Ginkgo biloba is a tree that is most prevalent in the Zhejiang province in Eastern China.  The leaves are a proven vasodilator that help promote increased blood flow to the scalp.  The terpenoids found in ginkgo improve blood flow by dilating blood vessels and reducing blood platelet stickiness.

Additionally, the flavonoids and terpenoids found in ginkgo are potent antioxidants that fight free radicals that can damage the hair and scalp.  Our ginkgo extract is standardized to contain at least 24% flavonoids and 6% terpenoids.

Saw Palmetto Berry Extract-320mg (85-95% sterols and fatty acids)

Saw palmetto is a fan palm tree native to the southeastern United States.  The berries of the saw palmetto palm tree is rich in phytosterols and fatty acids.  Extracts of saw palmetto berries block the formation of DHT by inhibiting both forms (Type I and II) of 5 alpha reductase which converts testosterone to DHT.

Studies have shown that saw palmetto can block DHT. In one study 40 men participated in a 6-month randomized trial that compared saw palmetto to a placebo. The subjects taking the saw palmetto experienced a 20% drop in DHT levels compared to no drop in the placebo group.

The majority of the benefits of saw palmetto are attributable to the sterols and fatty acids of the berry.  Our saw palmetto extract contains a very high 85-95% sterols and fatty acids.

Nettle Leaf Extract-300mg

Stinging nettle extract, an extract of a perennial plant growing world wide, has been shown in animal studies to shrink prostate growth.  Although the exact mechanism is not clear, it is believed that this occurs by blocking the production of DHT.

Folate-200mcg

Folate is a B vitamin that occurs naturally in foods.  Folic acid is the form found in vitamins and fortified foods. Folate is necessary for your body to build and maintain cells.  It’s an essential building block to maintaining a thick healthy looking head of hair.  It works synergistically with the other B vitamins in our formulation for hair support.

Biotin-1,000mcg

Biotin is a B vitamin that is an essential part of the hair growth process.  Biotin is required to metabolize amino acids and proteins needed to grow healthy hair.  Biotin helps thicken the hair shaft resulting in hair with a thicker, fuller appearance.  It also increases the elasticity of the hair’s cortex, making it less likely to break.

Even mild deficiencies in biotin can lead to dermatitis or hair loss. 

While biotin is available in foods like liver or egg yolks, you would need to consume unhealthy amounts of each in order to get the biotin that your hair needs.

Iodine-150mcg

Changes in the American diet since the 1970s have resulted in Americans getting about half the amount of iodine in their diets today than they did 40 years ago. 

Maintaining proper iodine intake is important because iodine helps regulate thyroid hormones and prevents dry hair and hair loss.  It also helps promote increased blood flow and healthy cell growth.

Zinc-15mg

Zinc is an important antioxidant and immune booster that blocks DHT by inhibiting 5 alpha reductase.  Zinc also helps reduce sebum that can cause inflammation and harm the scalp. In a British study, 100% of subjects were able to reverse their hair loss by taking a zinc nutritional supplement.

When supplementing with zinc, it’s important to also supplement copper because taking zinc without copper can lead to a copper deficiency.  No worries here, Follicare® Nutritional Supplement also contains 3mg of copper.

Copper-3mg

Copper is important to the formation of collagen and elastin, the key connective tissue proteins in the skin and hair.  They promote strength and flexibility in healthy tissue structures.

Copper is also important because it along with zinc is essential in the formation of the antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD).  SOD, like other antioxidants, is important to protect your hair from free radical damage caused by environmental factors such as the sun and pollution.

Also, as mentioned in the zinc discussion above, copper in this supplement supports the presence of zinc in this formulation.

Niacin-40mg

Niacin is a B vitamin important for healthy hair growth.  It is necessary for many energy producing reactions in the body and is instrumental to circulation and cell growth.  Niacin helps tissue structures like your hair and scalp to retain moisture, preventing them from drying out and becoming brittle.

Vitamin B6 helps produce melanin which gives hair its color.  It also helps zinc to block DHT formation.

Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)-30mg

Pantothenic Acid as D-calcium pantothenate is also known as vitamin B5. It is an essential B vitamin that the body requires.  One of the important roles of vitamin B5 is to assist coenzyme A to break down fatty acids.  Low levels of vitamin B5 will result in excess fatty acids, which will clog pores.  Clogged pores on your scalp can starve hair follicles, resulting in hair loss.

Beta-Sitosterol-100mg

Beta sitosterol is a “phytosterol” or plant fat that has been shown to reduce the effects of DHT.  In an Italian study, researchers found that beta sitosterol lowers DHT by reducing the binding of DHT to tissue receptors, as opposed to inhibiting DHT’s production.  This makes it a good complement to saw palmetto, nettle, zinc and the other DHT blockers in this formulation.
